re: #417 Naso Tang

A large modern ship or double hulled supertanker is in little danger from an RPG, particularly when the shooter can be seen from miles away, and coming by radar, and picked off by a sniper at far beyond the RPG range.

Okay, now you’re sniping people at long range. No problems there, I’m sure. Nobody accidentally getting shot who shouldn’t be.

Not to mention that pirates often manage to get to and board the boats before anyone knows they’re even there, since they use low-slung boats to avoid radar.

Not to mention that it takes an enormous number of men to do an effective sea watch on a large vessel.

The reason it doesn’t happen that way is that everyone is scared of being sued for killing innocent fishermen who just kept an RPG as self defense.

Maybe they actually don’t want to kill innocent people.

You don’t get the no profit as a deterrent, do you?

You aren’t making it no profit, unless you have a 100% success rate.

So now you imagine the pirates taking their own people who do some fishing as hostages, and think the fishermen need to be armed to protect themselves, do you? What’s the ransom going to be in that case? 5 gallons of warm snapper?

Do you seriously not know that the pirates also steal the fisherman’s catches? Really?

You don’t know this happens?

Okay. You have no clue how hard it is to patrol an area of ocean, no clue how hard a small boat is to pick up on radar, no clue how many men would be necessary to do a watch on a ship, no clue that tankers have this little problem of being filled with explosive and flammable materials and so an RPG is an actual danger to them, and generally no fucking clue.

I’m done talking with you. It’s fine to be ignorant. It’s not fine to be ignorant and opinionated.
