I think they are just completing their transformation into the “Christian White peoples party”.

It has been in the works for quite some time.

Is there a danger here in framing the issue that way? Suppose your pov is accepted universally.

Whites, if they were to vote as a bloc to the extent blacks do, and vote Republican, would sweep Republicans into office in almost every state and of course the presidency. Racial relations today are good, somewhat improved from decades ago when they were already not that bad, and much improved from the 1940s when we last saw white-on-black race riots.

This can all be lost, though it would take a lot of bad breaks. One such bad break would be if whites started thinking along us/them lines with race being the dividing line.

It’s simply not true that the Republican party best represents the interests or the wants of white voters. But neither is it true that the Democratic party best represents the interests and wants of Hispanic voters, or even black voters. Class matters. Regional issues matter. Personality even plays a role. While there are correlations between voting behavior and race, they’re not absolute, and if people looked to their own lives and thought for themselves, those correlations would become even weaker. The LAST thing we want is for them to become stronger.

Harry Reid, yes, I’m talking to you.
