We’d have to rent a car, take the cats, find a hotel that actually accepts cats, and risk driving several hundred miles in shitty weather. I think we’d have a lot more chance of dying during that drive than we would staying put in a big, solid building in the middle of Manhattan.

And we’re not in a low-lying area, so no flood’s going to get us.

I’d rather stay behind and help if there is a disaster of some sort, too, and my wife would too. She’s only a med student, but she can help at an aid station and I can go door-to-door with water and food, if necessary.
