Catholicism isn’t about suppression of thought. While it is at times concerned with acting against theological error, it is not an anti-thought religion.

Well there’s a difference between what a church teaches and what effect its dogma has on people.

If you believe that errant beliefs will send a soul to hell, then its perfectly logical to suppress speech so that your own children won’t be exposed to those beliefs or because you don’t want others to go to hell,.

Now Jesus may even have ordered you to avoid that sort of behavior but the total belief system logically encourages that behavior DESPITE the commands.
