Well let’s not forget that Japan and Europe did what they did with HSR while the USA footed the bill for their military defense. And they never really developed the “car culture” there that we have here. And hell, you can get from city to city in Japan (and country to country in Europe) by walking. We have hundreds of millions of people here in “flyover” country that NEED vehicles to do the farming, harvesting and getting crops and livestock to the railheads. And last, but most assuredly not least, they STILL USE TRUCKS and other FOSSIL FUELED vehicles to get people and goods to the supermarkets and hospitals and other places.

You’re looking at the concept of light and HS rail service implimentation as an either-or, real… it’s not. People are still going to use their cars, they’ll just have additional options available to them.

And it means that Americans who either can’t drive or can’t afford a car, will actually HAVE an option.
