He could have handled the whole situation better. Even Jones has said as much in public, and in his book. He knows that it went poorly, and that Landry was pretty much martyred at the time over how it all went down.

Like I said— I don’t begrudge him for doing it. The team had been on a losing streak for a few seasons by the time Jones bought them, and a new owner is allowed to bring in new blood. But it all went down so badly that it just poisoned the well.

he took the rap for whoever leaked the news to the press…obviously it was his responsibility there, but someone got out in front of it to spite Jones…letting Landry go was not an easy thing for Jones and he learned a lot, and fast, from that incident….since then he has become the number 1 interview of all owners…almost everybody loves to talk with him
