I have to wonder if it’s awkward as hell to be the German Chancellor present at a commemoration of D-Day.
An English friend of mine fondly remembers when the Brits lost to the Germans in the World Cup, and a commentator said, “I suppose it’s okay that the Germans beat us in our National Sport, since we’ve beaten them twice at theirs.”
But, yeah.
