The Port Authority, LMDC, and the City and State consider the 16 acre site to be Ground Zero. The area below 14th Street is a designated Liberty zone to encourage business growth and development (entitling them to Liberty bonds and assistance b/c of Ground Zero disruptions).

It’s a community center, which will also have a mosque. That’s how it was pitched to, and approved by, CB1.

And no, Islam doesn’t suck. Some practitioners of Islam suck. Then again, so to do some practitioners from other religious groups.
