Doesn’t “spending a third of what we do” imply that their health care is more affordable than ours?

Not really. The US has an extremely high percentage of elective medical procedures added to their tabulation, which includes every tummy tuck, liposuction, boob enhancement, botox injection and literally hundreds of other cosmetic procedures. Other countries tend not to count such costs, as they’re simply not part of the national system in the first place; many countries citizens also don’t share America’s obsession with appearance, or simply aren’t in the habit of spending their discretionary income on such things.

It’s actually very difficult to accurately compare costs between countries. Those issues noted here are just a part of the problems that are encountered.
