I don’t know…..I watched the fall of the Berlin Wall and the unravelling of the Warsaw Pact on live TV - not to mention the collapse of the USSR. I think that may have been the first example of a world power imploding for all the world to see on live television.

Ok, you got me. Let’s make this the documented collapse of a world power that is at its time the largest military and economic power in the word, thus there’s no reason for its collapse. Not sure how to shorten that.
