I figured that. Upgrading to juice brakes was common as soon as there were enough junked ‘40 Fords to provide them. Same with replacing the friction shocks with hydraulics. Newer is definitely better for nearly anything hidden by sheet metal.

Oddly enough, there was a period during the late Forties/Early Fifties when the cool thing to do was to junk the top shift trans and replace it with one that used a column shift. That was one of the things that made finding an original trans for my 51’ Ford panel truck an odyssey.
