Funny thing is, that is the exact point made in the Hunger Games series. Katniss made multiple stands against grievous injustices at great personal and emotional cost.

The author, Suzanne Collins, made the point repeatedly that stands on conviction, however necessary, can have dreadful consequences and that nobody escapes war unscathed.
