Not exactly. Already the benefits formula skews toward not being directly proportional to the amount of taxes paid in. It very much is a welfare program. I’m glad it’s there, but as a retirement program it sucks. As a welfare program to keep the elderly out of poverty, it’s great.

People actually do live on social security, like $1000 a month. It’s poverty level. Imagine, sick and old and all you have is $1000 a month. Why the elderly sometimes live together, but won’t marry.

And as bad as that is, without it, they’d be dead or slowly dying in state rest home? What’s that gonna cost us.
