re: #419 Dr Lizardo

Yep. STID was a rehash of Wrath of Khan.

I have a somewhat different view, and I say this as a guy who watched Star Trek from the age of 9, from the very first episode ever aired (The Man Trap):

It was just a TV show.

A lot of it, and I do mean A LOT of it, was crap. Yes, it was visionary, and miles ahead of any other science fiction on TV or movies at the time, but still - nearly the whole third season was crap.

The movies, by and large, were crap - especially the first one, which IIRC is the one Gene Roddenberry had the greatest part in making.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Trek - TOS, NextGen, DS9, even Voyager, though I never really got into Enterprise. But it’s entertainment, made originally to sell advertizing, and now to fill seats in cinemegaplexes. It ain’t high art.

I actually like that they set it up in a new timeline, so yes, we may see the same heroes and villains, but in different circumstances. It’s either that or let it die, and just stick with what had been done before. Soon, we’d be watching the old episodes ritually, no longer understanding their meaning. They’d become the E Plebnista of Science Fiction.
