I do a little woodworking as a hobby. Looking closely at the photo and text there are two problems here. First of all, if the hand is Monkey Pod Tree wood, that tree is native of South, Central America and Pacific Islands. It is not native to Africa. Obviously it could be imported to Africa and be carved but that is very unlikely in that there are many many other types of wood simply lying around in Africa to use.

Second, I looked the photo over and to me it actually looks like walnut with the egg being very similar to rock maple. Any other wood workers out there who care to comment?
