it wasn’t only in the British Empire that the Lewis saw service in WWII. USN small craft still used the Lewis gun during the Guadalcanal campaign. By 1943, however, the Lewis gun’s time in combat had ended.

The question was why the British replaced the Lewis with the Bren.

As to the US, let us not forget General Crozier and his intense personal dislike of Colonel Lewis - which meant the Ordnance department he was in charge of absolutely refused to approve the Colonel’s machine gun.
