That’s my thinking as well. Demographics are changing pretty much everywhere, and that change will be more pronounced over the course of the coming decade.

By 2020/2024, even Texas might be purple, or even blue. If the GOP loses TX, they’re pretty much non-competitive as a national party unless they change their ways. Without TX, they’re going to end up confined to the Deep South and flyover country.

And I think that’s why they oppose immigration reform. They know that their actions have made Hispanics likely to be strong Democrats and they don’t want to deal with the consequences of that. They’re just trying to hold on for life at the moment. Now, what they could do and won’t do because they’re dicks is try to become less condescending to communities that aren’t wealthy white conservative Christians.
