Could be, I don’t know he history of the name change. I read about it years ago, but I don’t remember for sure. What I do know is the guys raised during the Shah’s time were the most bigoted against Arabs. The Shah really pushed the Aryan thing and Aryan in Farsi—Aariaee—sounds very similar to Iran.
“Aryan” is what the Indo-European-speaking invaders of India called themselves in Sanskrit—the “bright” or “shining” ones. The Persian Great Kings used “Aryan” as a complimentary epithet for themselves. “Iran” is the same word—as is “Eireann” or “Erin” for Ireland. Goes way back in the Indo-European family,
