My wife used to nanny for a couple, because both of them worked during the day. She basically saw the baby’s first steps and heard her first words. To me, that would be the most depressing thing ever, knowing that some stranger was more intimate with my kids than I was.

It is depressing to the mother. In this economy both parents have to work. It was so hard for me to drop my kids off. It was just another layer of guilt. But kids will survive. My mom worked. It was the 1960’s. I resented having to get up during summer vacation and having to go to a sitter when they went to work. I lived through it. I was lucky enough to be able to quit and spend more time with my kids when we started out own business. I don’t know how parents pay for child care for more than one kid now.
