If the GOP loses Texas they’re pretty much finished as a national party, at least at far as the Presidency is concerned. They can still have influence at the local and state level….even the House of Representatives, but their headlong rush into atavistic xenophobia and bigotry will deny them 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for the foreseeable future. And as the rapidly ageing GOP base begins to dwindle in the next couple of decades, they’re going to find themselves in serious trouble as a political party unless they change direction.
