His supporters are not necessarily Republicans: they hate the GOP establishment nearly as much as they hate the Democrats and voted for DT to spite them both. He knows that, and he can turn on the GOP any time he wants to and with impunity.

It’s possible.

But that’s assuming that he knows the GOP rank-and-file will fail spectacularly on practically everything they try (even failing to repeal the ACA). Thus, he lets them fail, setting himself up to turn heel and fire everyone.

That’s stretching my suspension of disbelief to the ultimate limits. He’s too much of a known quantity that such a heel turn won’t be believable.
