I wonder if the Japanese response will be more efficient than the response if say a tsunami damaged a large swath of southern California.

I’m betting that the Japanese don’t have to listen to native Bible-thumpers screaming that this is due to their “wicked, sinful ways,” nor a Know-Nothing movement saying that cleaning up after all this is not the duty of the national government.
