Beyond that, what the fuck? Patients don’t have the right to keep their medical records confidential anymore?

It’s no one else’s business what doctors I go to or what procedures I get done, no matter what it is. If my own family can’t know about my medical records without my consent, what the hell gives these assholes the right to publicize anyone else’s medical records?

I am a caretaker for two people. Whenever I want to act on their behalf, HIPAA rules require that I have signed documents before I can gain access to any information about their medical history. And this is for someone who is freakin’ trying to help them manage their healthcare.

There is no way - using a consistent logic, that this bill can be consistent with HIPAA rules - both in terms of the letter of the laws and in terms of the spirit of the laws.

I tend to avoid over-the-top hyperbole - but this kind of legislation cannot but remind me of scarlet letters and stake-burning.
