Cops in Venice, CA beat the shit out of a kid for skateboarding and ‘resisting arrest’. In front of his house.

From your link, The arresting officer reportedly told Weekley’s family that he was skateboarding on the wrong side of the street and he resisted arrest.

Anyone know what the relevent law is? Should he have been on the sidewalk? On the pavement facing oncoming traffic (as pedestrians are often advised to do)? Or flowing with vehicular traffic —where he can’t see them without a rearview mirror. Must one avoid bike lanes? And whatever the rules, wouldn’t a skateboarder have to reverse direction fairly often, assuming he/she want’s to stay in one area, such as for saftey? Can’t you just see a teenager spending a few seconds skateboarding, then a minute or so walking back, alternately, in order to avoid jaywalking? Is that what it would take to be compliant?
