I know what you mean about an Elijah cup. I suppose that if you go by the minhag of filling any given cup to the brim, you have a very good point.

I have this image though in my mind of passing it on and passing on the other one. To the son who gets the heirloom, I will point out how it is small, and how it is the one thing their great great grandfather kept with him from his journey to America. It had been in the family for generations even before he came, and his family wanted him to sell it if he needed to to get here. But he found a way to keep it. Just a little silver cup, it meant almost everything to him - and five generations after who never forgot who they were.

But what do I give the other boy?

I want it to contrast. I want him to not feel left out. I want him to get the big strong cup that daddy used every Shabbos.
