I think what would be best if you are going to have school on those holidays is to have a veteran come in and talk to the class. I think when I was seven which was the year of the 50th anniversary of D-Day, a girl’s grandfather who had been in the Normandy Landings came in and talked. I’m a big fan of living history approaches to history as to make history feel closer and relevant to the kids.
