On Redistribution and Robin Hood;

I’ve had the Robin Hood analogy dropped about taxation, as in ‘liberals want to rob from the rich to give to the poor.’ Seems like a seriously flawed analogy, or a tacit acknowledgement of support for an elite upper class with power delegated by wealth.

The Sheriff of Nottingham enforced high taxation on the underclass with little benefit. Robin Hood stole from the Sheriff and returned it to the poor.

So is Obama Robin Hood? Because it gets pretty screwy thinking this analogy through, especially since Obama is supposed to be the bad guy in this analogy. Does that make the Sheriff of Nottingham the good guy?

Yes, he would be the good guy because he represents the established order. It’s not a good analogy, as you said. Prince (later King) John was more the Englishman than Richard the Lionhearted ever was. In real life, Richard only spent about 6 months total in England and could not speak English. For the most part he lived in France and spoke French.
