Easy it is called the free market… that IS the solution. For example you want less expensive Rx? buy from the lowest bidder. It is that simple.
So when you get picked up by the ambulance after a car accident and have a bone sticking out of your arm, are you going to negotiate price?
Medical supplies are one thing. I agree that consumerism can meaningfully manifest itself there. But when you are sitting at your spouse’s bedside and are listening to the doctor say that it’s malignant and has to come out now, most people will not choose that time to haggle over price. And building a health care system on the assumption that people should or will behave that way is folly.
