Senate OK’s bill mandating longer sit-outs for high school athletes with concussions: https://t.co/IP5k5vOw5z via @ABQJournal #nmleg

The legislation was prompted by the case of Cleveland [high school] running back Shawn Nieto, who was cleared to play in a state championship game last December by a state district judge after school medical personnel diagnosed a concussion a week earlier in the state semifinal game and insisted he not return because of the one-week waiting period.
The Nieto family denied the player received a concussion and, among its other objections, said it was unclear when the one-week concussion period would begin.
And the judge said they didn’t tell her anything.
Young athletes would need a written medical release from a licensed health care professional - which would include a physical therapist - before returning to athletic activity, under the legislation.
I haven’t seen whether chiropractors are included.
