I don’t see them as mutually exclusive. There are things such as defense, education, healthcare, infrastructure, etc. that are best done at an “economy of scale” that are by all rights socialist constructs. It’s what the US is doing now (in some cases, healthcare excluded) and works quite well. Capitalism, regulated as much as necessary to preclude abuse, in anti-trust laws, consumer protection, etc. is great for what it does.
