I’d like to think so - but really can’t bring myself to believe it. We need to break into their trade markets and get barriers down - we’d be fawning to them even if we were not debters.

There’s two different “we’s” here. Its likely that private enterprises based in the US would fawn regardless, given the sheer scale of the Chinese market, but the government has different priorities besides making a buck (as is seen in our riduculously high and rising national debt).
