re: #36 marjoriemoon

However, their scriptures do serve as legal code in Islamic run countries. They don’t have democracy (voting), a constitution, rule of law or a representative government. This is the challenge of the Arab Spring - so that freedom will endure.

Israel is probably the only country that has all these things, democracy, rule of law, a representative government AND Jewish law. And some folks (both in and out of Israel) don’t really dig that. But that Israel does it and still remains a free society proves that it can be done. The Arabs CAN have it. I don’t know if they WILL have it, but I guess now, I’ve gone off on a tangent LOL

At any rate, I feel strongly about supporting those Muslims (and anyone else) who have broken free of tyranny and are trying to live their lives in peace and freedom.

Can you claify your groupings a bit?

For instance, Malaysia has Islam as a state religion, but it’s legal system is mainly derived from English Common Law. They have a constitution, elections, etc., but they also are not Arabic.

So I think I’m having troubles with your comment sort of making “Islamist” and “Arab” equivalent, when there are a lot of non-Arab Muslims in the world as well.
