It might be difficult for you to establish that you are Jewish to the satisfaction of Birthright. However, you will find that other organizations are supportive. If you consider yourself Jewish, join a congregation in Manhattan and see if the rabbi will support you after a time has gone by in which you show some commitment to the community. Alternately, look at cufi.org; if it seems interesting, get in touch with them and see if they have some programming/financial support available for educational trips to Israel.
