Stupid actions sometimes produce stupid reactions. Going after pot was intended to strike at a symbol of the counterculture. It’s not worth what it cost, in the main.

That having been said, I dislike marijuana immensely, but that is mostly just part of my broader dislike of intoxicants.

I consider myself a “catnip smoking liberal” in that I’m far too penny pinching with my own money to even think about smoking or drinking anything… but at the same time, I will fight to the death to defend other people’s rights to do so.
