He took all kinds of grief for his Moynihan Report on the State of the Black family.
He was prescient with that for sure.

Moynihan was also one of the first really prominent politicians, and almost the only Democrat, to predict the collapse of the Soviet Union many years before it happened. He formulated this idea in the mid-70s when it was virtually heresy across the political spectrum.
He was also the last person to throw a punch on the Senate floor, when he sucker-punched fellow Senator Kit Bond in 1993.
