I have a good friend/colleague who is a Brit and insists that the Americans showed up to 4th quarter lead with 2 minutes left to play and we claimed the victory. Apparently the history books in the UK were written by Texas-like Brits.

I think that more recent generations of Europeans take a more dispassionate view, but you have to remember that many English cities were essentially flattened in the early stages of the war. To say nothing of the massive physical damage inflicted on Russia (boo!) and indeed Germany.
