Regulating commerce… but in this instance, the airlines are getting around the notion of raising fares (which drives traffic on their websites via search engines programmed to look at fares first). The added fees can tack on serious money to the cost of a ticket, but not factored into the price of the ticket when purchased.

Airlines now add baggage fees - sometimes $50+ on a single checked bag, yet the airlines are reluctant to increase the price of a given ticket because it might send people to other airlines.

I’d rather see the airlines consolidate the fees into the price rather than nickel/dime/$50 fee to make up their profit center…
