The Army and USMC employed flamer throwers differently during the war.

IIRC, the Army created dedicated assault teams, consisting of multiple flamethrower teams, supported by demolition teams, engineers, and bazookas.

The Marines would attach the flamethrower teams to existing units, based on their missions and operational needs.

Been since I read up on them.

Flame thrower carriers and snipers took third or fourth place in target priorities. The first two were lieutenants and their radio men.

The radio was what called down the artillery. The lieutenant was the one who called it down where it would hurt. One of my wife’s uncles carried a radio around some of those Pacific islands.
