I had a good work ethic because I figured out early on that my parents were INTENSELY FOCUSED ON ME DOING WELL, and it made my life way easier if I did well. Then they’d be more likely to agree when I proposed things like, say, buying a fancy computer with their help because I totally wanted to play Dungeon Master and Sundog and kick the ass of my friends with Macs and hang out on hacker BBSes in the middle of the night for educational reasons. ^_^

if As were the path to the mighty Atari ST, that was the easiest decision I could ever make. School was just another means to an end. I knew I’d never use the math skills. But I knew that I could talk them into buying me computer gear and art supplies and expensive music hardware if I came home with straight As and busted ass in advanced math.
