The man behind the Democratic donkey and Republican elephant, Thomas Nast is an interesting guy. Huge critic of racism against Black Americans in the nineteenth century but also responsible for some anti Irish and Catholic baiting too. I like donkeys though especially the cute dronkeys in the Shrek movies.
