My immediate family missed WW2 service. Grandfather just a little bit too old (late 40s) and father just a little bit too young (he did his military service in the USN mid-50s after college.) Only WW2 vet was one of my uncles who was in the ETO and had brought back a few souvenirs (a pistol and a periscope off a German tank.)

I’ve done some shallow searches on his WW2 service, but have just come up with that he enlisted in 1942 (age 23) and served in what I presume was a rear-area role - 3446th Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance Co. Made rank of T-3 (Technical Sgt) by the time he was mustered out.

I should probably ask one of my cousins from that part of the family to see if he ever discussed anything interesting. Though possibly not since I don’t recall my father discussing his military service much among the family.*

* - My mother’s remark about the family memorabilia from that time is that my father must have had some fixation on underway replenishment since he took a lot of pictures of it.
