No. But we’ve all been around the block enough times to recognize what’s going on with this woman, I think. I’ve never lost a child, but I can imagine how tempting it would be to deny that such an event had actually happened, and to find endless activities and distractions to keep from facing it. I think such a reaction is probably normal. What’s not normal is having that reaction thrust into the national spotlight, and being manipulated by others intent on using your grief to serve political ends, constantly goading you into making more and more extreme statements while giving you what you need so much - a distraction from that overwhelming grief threatening to swallow you. And I think, too, that most people have experience with what happens when you repress strong emotions for too long - they generally find a way to the surface despite your best efforts, often in unpleasant ways.
