In this case I think they are a little different, philosophically (or at least in terms of self-perception).

Lulzsec was “grey hat” with respect to hacker philosophy. There was a mix of nihilism and vengence in their actions. Also a lot of carelessness. From what I heard, they ended their activity when other hackers threatened to out their identities because they were not representing the community helpfully.

Anonymous take themselves more seriously and believe they are actually engaged in plain old social activism, albeit on the digital front. I think both groups are probably composed of 16-23 year old white middle upper class males from “1st world” countries.
