Difference is, white washing of that past is ok in most of the South, whereas Germans know and condemn their past.

The white bigot south aren’t the only people trying to whitewash their pasts. Pontiac, Seattle, many communities in CA, Southie in MA…filthy segregationist histories that would make Bull Connor blush.

Problem is, you get heels-dug-in white bigot conservative David Duke-voting southerners pointing at Pontiac, Southie, etc to distract from their own f’ed up behavior.

That sort of thing never works for any of the above, but they still do it.
