I think that the latest CDC figures had roughly 5,000 new HIV diagnoses for African-Americans - this was from 2008 - and new infection rates have been steadily declining over the past decade.
Also, there were only 3000 deaths during that year due to HIV-related causes.

Hardly what I would call a pandemic in the male African-American community - it doesn’t even rank in the top 10. The big killer for AA males is cardiovascular disease and renal failure directly attributed to hypertension (high blood pressure). Nothing else even comes close.
