The horrible irony is that by itself, “Kristallnacht” means crystal night, conjuring images of some lovely ball in beautiful dresses among gorgeous crystal and ice sculpture with beautiful music and good food.

The reality is very, very ugly, and bears no resemblance.

That kind of ugly has no place in a modern society.

This is precisely why you will almost NEVER hear the term “Kristallnacht” in Germany. It is typically referred to as “Reichspogromnacht” or “Novemberpogrome 1938”.
