But from what I can glean from this and a couple of other articles on the internet (which may or may not be fact based), Alex cut into the line, Salme objected, Alex punched him, Salme pulled out a gun, and Alex ran behind a refrigerator.

Based upon the police immediately releasing him, and the Sears store management giving him a voucher, it sounds like they thought his actions were, for Texas anyway, reasonable. Interestingly, no word on what happened to Alex. Meanwhile, the Sears store probably lost several hours of prime retail time due to the fiasco, with who knows how many thousands of dollars of sales.

My own thoughts are that initiating a gunfight in the middle of a Black Friday over-crowded store is a good way to involve lots of innocent passersby. I think that Salme was extremely lucky that the confrontation ended before he actually fired a shot.
