It may be “the” gun, but Chief Belmar’s performance in previous recent incidents makes me naturally skeptical.

If it was some unrelated gun, recovered not from his hand but from a nearby place, this will simply backfire on the police and will be that “earth-shattering” something that I mentioned above. And since I don’t take conspiracy theories about police planting evidence seriously (unless good evidence is provided, that is), I wouldn’t bet on that incident being an unjustified shooting.
