I don’t idolize LBJ, but ironically much of the legacy Republicans seek to destroy (Medicare, the Voting Rights Act, even the freaking Corporation for Public Broadcasting) is his. We shouldn’t forget how much of the liberal domestic consensus these days was his agenda (of course, not ignoring the tragedy of Vietnam).

Also, LBJ bloody worked with Congress to get things done in a bipartisan manner and never imagined himself a king, so the comparison is moot.
