Youth seems to come with a feeling of being bulletproof. It has its advantages at times, like being unafraid to try new things or feeling the world is full of endless possibilities, but it also leads to some very dumb decisions. I hope he learns from this to listen to The Grandmother.

Is there public transportation where you are? Places nearby where he could walk to work if need be? Not ideal of course, but it would help in the meantime.

We live in a rural area. A car is a must—there are some fast food joints nearby (we’re a couple of miles from a crossroads), but absolutely no public. I used to take him, but he got tired of having to bring the baby out with me at night, etc, and depending on me.

He’s trying to be an adult, but it really isn’t easy these days.
